Muscle & joint pain is another topic under discussion for people suffering from HYPO-thyroidism, a major problem during exercise and especially in bodybuilding with a multiple strainof hyperthermia [2]. This will also help the body's normal reaction to exercise [1]. In fact, some studies have shown that the use of HCZ can help decrease muscle and joint pain caused by HYPO-thyroidism. Other studies have shown that the use of HCZ can reduce the risk of injuries and muscle damage during exercise [9]. This is likely because of the anti-inflammatory properties of HCZ, which are usually absent in other anti-inflammation medications [6]. Since muscle tissue is a major factor involved during exercise, it is interesting to evaluate how it deals with the presence of HYPO-thyroidism. In this study, the authors tested the efficacy of HCZ on the pain, swelling/joint pain, stiffness and swelling/joint pain sensitivity before and after exercising. The authors concluded that HCZ significantly decreases the acute pain of HYPO-thyroidism. It is interesting that this effect was noted in the control group (i.e. no treatments) of the study (which is not surprising, considering that the control group is not actually exercising during the study). Also, no significant difference was observed between the two groups. On the other hand, the authors noted that their data did not allow to determine whether and to what extent the effectiveness of HCZ depended on the level of HCA. What is the mechanism behind the anti-hyperthermia effect? After an exercise, the muscle tissue will release cortisol, which is a stress hormone. Cortisol increases in response to stress and if the body is unable to tolerate high levels of cortisol, the cortisol levels of the blood (the "cortisol response") will increase to its limits and cause the heart to beat faster [11].
